The MMTN Malaysia Conference 2017

Since the first Medical Mycology Training Network (MMTN) Conference in 2009, the MMTN meetings have been an excellent opportunity for scientists and healthcare professionals to keep up with the latest in the world of medical mycology and to fine-tune their craft.

This year, the AFWG convened the MMTN Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 5–6 August 2017. The conference was a resounding success and attracted more than 90 delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines.

Supported by a faculty of mycology experts, the scientific program focused on topics and updates relevant to Asian countries, including a wet practical on fungal identification in the laboratory, updates on important fungal infections in Asia, outbreaks of Candida auris, and newer antifungal agents and guidelines in the management of Asian patients. The clinical and mycology workshops transformed the rooms into highly engaging discussions challenging cases and practical issues in diagnostic techniques.

The meeting content and discussions were rated highly useful to real-life practice by the delegates. This marks another successful MMTN to help improve diagnosis and management of fungal infections in Asia!
